A Tribute to Gene Colan: 13 Years Without the Master

Two days ago marked the 13th anniversary of Gene "The Dean" Colan's passing, and my heart still aches thinking about the void he left in the comic book world. It's hard to believe it's been over a decade since we lost one of the most influential artists to ever grace the medium. Colan's atmospheric artwork, with its unique blend of light and shadow, transformed every character he touched. From his definitive runs on Daredevil and Doctor Strange to his legendary work on Tomb of Dracula and Howard the Duck, his distinctive style brought a cinematic quality to comics that few artists have ever matched. What always struck me about Gene's work was his masterful use of pencils – he rarely needed inks to convey depth and mood.
